Endings and New Beginnings: Toys R Us Closing and Toy Story Land Opening

Spoiler Alert: We did not attend the opening of Toy Story Land at Disney Hollywood Studios in Florida. In fact we have not been inside of a Disney park since 2011. Nevertheless, we are excited about the opening of this new land.

Back to the blog: The 4Craig family is very sad and excited this week. One of the kids' favorite stores closed this week. Toys R Us closed its doors Friday night for the last time. Our kiddos looked forward to the yearly trek to Toys R Us to spend the $3 gift card Jeffrey sent for their birthdays. They also had money to spend from grandparents. We also went other times during the year too. It was a special treat for the kids to go to toy store, if only to browse.

So when we heard the news Toys R Us is closing, the kids were devastated. There was something special about a kid browsing through aisles and aisles of a store made just for them. The 12-year-old said his childhood is gone. His younger brother agreed. Their childhood would never be the same. Yesterday was a sad day.

That is until we arrived home and turned on YouTube. Yes, we are a YouTube family and many YouTubers were live streaming on YouTube for the soft opening of Toy Story Land. Suddenly their childhood was back. We watched video of the awesome Slinky Dog Coaster and laughed at everyone getting dizzy on the alien swirling saucers. We imagined ourselves walking through the park, which is themed to be Andy's backyard and we're the size of a toy.

Lesson learned: Childhood fun is still around if you look in the right place.

So today, Saturday, June 30, 2018, is the opening day. We don't have plans to go because of our budget. Even though we are in Florida right now (we live in Michigan), we won't be doing any of the theme parks. But the land already did what it's supposed to do. It brought us joy and laughter.

Since we are a T-Shirt blog, I thought I would show you a t-shirt inspired by love, happiness, and amusement parks. I even lowered the price for one week to $19.99, after which it will go back to $25.99. It's our Happiness Happens Tee.  No, it's not the Disney Castle but it's a fun tee that reminds you of the fun of a theme park. This t-shirt comes in five different colors (navy and royal blue, yellow, green, and gray) and in men's, women's, and kids' sizes.
